User info

I started my amateur radio hobby as an interested shortwave listener and one day I stumbled across a few amateurs talking about the annual light house day which normally happens in August and I heard that the local club would be operating the Green Point Lighthouse- the oldest Lighthouse in South Africa so I decided to go and see for myself what this is all about.
Once arriving at the lighthouse I saw a massive yagi beam setup on a portable mast outside with banners saying station operated by amateur radio - ZS1CT which is the local club.

One of the members approached me and asked if I wanted to go inside the lighthouse and have a look for myself, well that was the little spark I needed to start the amateur radio fire, sooner than I knew it I had my own license with the call sign of ZS1MTF and it wouldn't have been possible without the help and guidance of the members in the CTARC.

I'm still a young Ham and enjoy the digital modes, as well as APRS. I have a smart digi running from my QTH in Cape Town which helps amateurs which live on my side of the mountain to get into the local APRS network as there are lots of mountains in Cape Town South Africa.

Hope you have enjoyed my story and would be keen to hear yours!
