User info
Retired Network Engineer from a major public university. Became a ham in January 1990. Very active until disabled and retired in 2010. Recently moved to Abilene, Texas from central Oklahoma.
My wife and son also have thier Amateur radio license although neither is currently active on the HF bands.
I started my ham career when a co-worker went to Radio Shack over the weekend to buy a CB radio so we could talk. Two older hams in the store at the time talked him into buying a 10mtr radio instead. 10 mtr was wide open at the time and we both became hooked. I located a General Class who arranged a test session for us.
My first radio was a "Hot Water" 101 and I still think it was the cleanest sounding radio I ever transmitted on. My son has it now and uses it when on HF.
Radio now is a Yaseu FT-857 feeding into a long wire at 30'.
