My name is Smitty and I've had my license for nearly 20 years, originally issued KG6WSQ.

I started my family in 2007, and life got in the way, and I fell silent. With COVID hitting in 2020, I picked up the mic again and re-discovered the hobby. I'm an active member of the Sierra Foothills Amateur Radio Club (SFARC -- www.w6ek.org), the Yuba-Sutter Amateur Radio Club (YSARC -- www.ysarc.net), Glenn County Amateur Radio Society (GARS -- www.garshamradio.org), and the Placer County ARES.

I upgrade to amateur extra in the Fall of 2022 and changed my call sign from K9CCO to WB1G.

If I'm in the shack, I'm running an Icom 7300 and 9700 fed by a Shure SM7B into a Symetrix 528E. For antennas, I run a DX40 OCF dipole and a GP95 and X200 for VHF/UHF. If on or offroad, I'm running a Kenwood 710GA fed into a Comet CSB 790A super beam.

I'm old school so if we have a voice QSO on HF, I'm sending a QSL card by mail. :)
