W0VFW Amateur Radio Club became a reality in September of 2007 with the issuance of the club call. W0VFW is the only Amateur Radio Club in the world that is sponsored by a VFW Post. Thru fund raisers and donations to the club, we have been able to install a 40' Universal self supporting tower. On the tower we have a Crushcraft X-7 beam, vertical and horizontal polarized 2 meter beam and a 2m/440 Comet GP-9 vertical. On a 50' telephone pole is a Comet GP-9 for use with our 443.325mhz repeater and a 2 meter folded dipole for our 145.27mhz repeater. There is also a echo link connection to the 2meter repeater which is used by amateurs from all around the world and by the National Weather Service while tracking severe weather.
The reason for starting the W0VFW Amateur club was to encourage people to become amateur radio operators and tap the unlimited resources of military trained radio operators. There is a multitude of Amateur radio operators that are Veterans and we try to encourage them all to get active in a Veterans organization in order to help protect the rights and benefits of all U.S. Veterans current and future.
The Club participates in many Amateur activities such as Field day, Pearl Harbor Day, Veterans Day, Military Appreciation Day to mention just a few.
The Club also has a core of ARRL Volunteer Examiners. We have held classes to help people get their license and hold a testing every 5th Saturday of the year.
