I'm new to the Ham world.  Spent the best part of 2019 studing for the licence exam and passed the test a few days before Christmas.  Studing for the exam was a big learning curve, but nothing compared to the actualling appling that knowledge on the airwaves.  I am slowly getting the hang of it, and beginning to make new friends around the world

If your interested in being part of an on-line and on-air discussion group on technical related Ham operation please check out the newly formed HamPET group (Propagation and Equipment design and Testing)  https://groups.io/g/HamPET

I'm located 40 miles north of the USA border on the shore of lake Superior, in the township of Neebing, Ontario,Canada.  This is a small community just outside of Thunder Bay.

Currently my HF rig is the IC 756pro primarily on the 80/40/20m bands.  While it has a 100watts of output power, I'm finding its a bit of a challenge competing with many on the airwaves who are pumping out 1k or more.  My primary antenna for now is the G5RV for 20m and a home made di-pole for 40 and 80m.  I also have a Motorola and and Azden for 2m work and a older Yaesu FT-101ZD as a back up.

Ham is only one of my interests.  Over the last few decades I have built 8 houses / cottages including my current home which I designed to be passive and PV solar.  While not 100% off the grid, I could survive a few years without Grid Power.
