V85TX is the latest in a string of calls I've held since I was first licensed as V8MQM in December 2003. At that time, however, it was a casual hobby. So, it wasn't until we established a Youth Association by the name ‘Persatuan Gemilang Daerah Tutong’ or GEMILANG in September 2004 that I became serious about ham radio as I was appointed as the Chairman of the GEMILANG Radio and responsible to start the Amateur Radio Club in our association. I passed the advanced exam in the 2006 and became V8AQM in December. On March 22nd 2010, I took the new prefix assignment for Brunei as V85 and change my call suffix from AQM to TX.

Over the years, I have been extremely active, especially in DXing and contesting hunting for new DXCC where I currently achieved 100 DXCC phone ( as of July 2009). Being the first local to achieve the award, it encourages me further hunt the Honor Roll. I was active in promoting our club and held most of the offices at one time or another. GEMILANG Radio was one of the first Amateur Radio Club authorized to carry out amateur radio class in support of the AiTi (The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry in Brunei), and I was among the facilitator of the said classes.

I run a small HF station comprises of ICOM 718 and OB9-5 Optibeam antenna and ICOM V8000 with Diamond X510H antenna for VHF plus few other ham accessories. Homebrew Moxxon 2 elements wire yagi for 20M was my first HF antenna and still is working very well. I also work with a multiband dipole.
Meanwhile, I have a few other interests to keep me busy, such as 4X4 and golfing.
