Back in 1972, our Spanish neighbor friend Camilo caused some interference with the stereo of my parents with his AM CB radio. As a 13 year old kid, I was curious about his activities and he introduced me to his radio shack and showed me how his radio worked. He could talk with his friends in Spain and Italy and I was instantly fascinated by this wireless thing. He gave me a 5 Watt 6 channel Tokai walkie-talkie to take home and my CB radio hobby was born. We lived on the 7th floor of an apartment building and I could talk to people a hundred or more kilometers away. At the time, CB radio use was illegal in Holland and my dad wasn't too pleased because of that. But with support of my mom, I went on and the Tokai made place for a 22 channel Granada mobile transceiver with a 1/4 wave GP antenna on our balcony, and DX CB was my new hobby. I made hundreds of QSO's all over the world and I cherish the box full of QSL cards from the 70's and early 80's. At the age of 23, I got married and a place of my own and the hobby was moved into storage boxes. I had a job and lots of other things on my mind, but the radio virus never really went away. I had a JRC NRD-535 receiver and listened to amateur radio every now and then with the help of a a wire antenna. Fast forward to late 2013, I unpacked some of the old boxes and got hooked on wireless again in an instant. I sold the JRC and bought myself a mint Kenwood TS-870 HF DSP transceiver and decided to go study for a my HAM license. Meanwhile, I did some SSB DX work on 11 meters, using my Charlie Tango callsign 19CT021. A friend introduced me to the Dutch Radio Amateur Club Whisky Oscar and I made some new supportive friends. I passed my exam early March 2014 and here I am with a real HAM callsign and all. The next goal is an F class license by the end of 2014, so more studying will commence .

My primary activities as a HAM will be HF SSB and digital mode DX'ing and I hope to meet you on 10, 20 and/or 40 meters!
