I own a small computer networking company called ABHNS (Advanced Business and Home Networking Solutions) http://www.abhns.com located in Appleton, WI. We specialize in wireless and wired networking solutions. We also do commercial webdesign and custom programming solutions for either web based and non-web based applications.
I'm the ARRL Affiliated Club Coordinator for Wisconsin. A role that I'm truly enjoying. It's very much a give and take position. There are alot of good things going on with Amateur Radio in Wisconsin. We just need to blow are own horn a little louder. You can find some powerpoints I prepared on ham radio at my ham radio page. I'm also very involved in the Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club, Inc. as a past board member as well as a volunteer examiner. You can find me on Wednesday night at 8pm central helping out Ham Nation, where I do the show notes, As well as produce some videos segments for the show. You can watch Ham Nation live at live.twit.tv. Also visit my Youtube ham radio channel
I'm ussually on the HF bands mobile either on 20 or 40 meters. Where I run a wolf river coils antenna thats rather large at 11 ft to the tip. Just running mostly barefoot (100 Watts) with a antenna like that you ussually don't need power. But when power is needed, I do have a Ameritron ALS-1300 wired to a second alternator that gives me the power when needed. You can find a video of my mobile on Youtube.
In my spare time you can find me volunteering for EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and for two weeks every year living in Oshkosh during EAA Airventure. Where I'm one of the admissions Chairman, I have been a pilot since 1979 where I hold a single as well as multi engine rating as well as Instrument rating, there is nothing like running aeronautical mobile.
I also enjoy helping others in get there amateur radio license and experiencing the rewards that amateur radio has to offer. Amateur radio has expanded so much over the years and its been fun watching it grow. I know there are naysayers that say where in a dying hobby. My feeling is its changing not dying and like a great man once said "If you don't change you are sure to die". If you would have told me 25 years ago that with the use of amateur radio I could track my car on the internet,be able to network repeater systems via computers or even take a radio smaller than a pager and put it in my shirt pocket I would have told you thats crazy. Well....... today we have all of that and more. Who known what tomorrow will bring. Maybe we will be able to talk to a space station in earths orbit.... Oh yeah, we can do that too. So is ham radio really dying? No,its evolving.
