Hello and thanks for looking me up!
Management Consultant holding BSc (Hons) and MBA degrees - ex-Marconi Electronics Engineer and Project Manager (1984-1995).
Used to design and build commercial / military FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) transceivers and X-Band microwave sub-systems. Modified old PYE equipment such as PF8 PocketFones & Westminsters in the 80's and active as a CB'er in the early days.
Helping owner-managers grow their businesses. App development, software and IT specialist. Other interests include:- Horseriding, Golf, Tennis, Piano, Violin & Writing a book at the moment.
I started my hobby in electronics at the age of 9 when my Dad undertook a formal electronics engineering training course in 1970 and he built a VHF transceiver and an oscilloscope using valves. I used to sit and watch him with fascination, then, after building my first Crystal Set (which was like Magic), I began to build small electronic circuits and sold many FM radio "bugs" to the other kids at school, culminating in making a number of high performance, high fidelity radio mics for many schools in the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA). Still remember designing the circuits, etching the copper clad boards and drilling the holes for the components and as time went on, after hundreds of hours of experimentation and optimisation, the units became smaller and more efficient. I then started adding crystal controlled oscillators, intermediate stages and integrated circuits to improve the performance, with my trusted BF194A and 2N3866 transistors that seemed to be bomb-proof and survived all my experimentation (!)
Now, after decades of absence, looking forward to experimenting again, starting with commercial gear and I will endeavour to get the full licence in due course, when I find the time.
Obtained the M7 licence in October 2018 and very interested in all aspects of the hobby, particularly with QRP. Using very high quality, low-loss M&P Ultraflex cable and getting great results - in the first week, hit New York on the 40m band with a 4/7 report and a VHF station 75 miles away with a 5/8 report, both QSO's on 10W.
Have found everyone to be very helpful and knowledgeable, which is much appreciated and looking forward to making many more QSO's in between business and a hectic life in general...
