I qualified with a Foundation Licence in October 2018. I have a modest set up as follows:
- Yaesu FT-100D transceiver manufactured around 2003 and bought on eBay
- Diamond X-200 antenna for 2m and 70cm
- Off Centre Fed Dipole (M0CVO HW-20P) for HF
- MFJ-949E antenna matching unit bought on eBay
- Avair AV-601 SWR and power meter
- Tecsun PL-660 VHF/HF/MW/LW receiver
- Uniden UBC125XLT scanner
- Eddystone 730/4 14 valve receiver in fabulous condition, built around 1959 covering 480kHz to 30MHz
- Eddystone EC10 Mk II transistor receiver built around 1972
Progress with amateur radio is slow as I have a a busy full time job, but every step is an interesting journey and I have progressed from a few VHF FM contacts in the UK to many stations across the world using PSK31.
Using just 10W and a loft mounted off centre fed dipole antenna I have PSK31 QSOs with VE2EH from Terrebonne, Montreal, Canada (5224 km); W4PKU from Herndon, Virginia, USA (5926 km); 7X3WPL from Laghouat, Algeria (1968 km), and R2ASY from Moscow, Russia (2490km). This is the aspect of the hobby which I find most fascinating and rewarding.
I have recently decided to try Direct Mail QSL Cards and this is my design. Please send $2, your QSL Card, and your address if you would like to exchange QSL Cards as a record of our QSO - there is no need to include a return envelope as I print a label.

As well as amateur radio I restore vintage valve radios and have a nice selection of mainly British radios plus a couple of Cossor radios from Russia. I have also restored a Fellows Fellocryst Super PMG No 177 crystal set from 1922.
