User info

Hello dear visitor, and thank you for taking the time to look at my modest page. I have been a SWL and MWL for nearly 50 years and I have been a radio amateur for the last couple of years. My 'shack' is very limited at the moment, focusing atm on QRP activity. I mostly run less than 3.5 watts (but on a select few occasions I do go up to 5 watts) using a Xiegu G90 along with a tuned end-fed long wire antenna (about 29 feet long), and at the moment I use digital modes primarily (mostly FT8/FT4).

As mentioned above my 'shack' is very limited (hence no photos) and due to the restrictions of where I live (absolutely nothing to be mounted outside my room and I cannot use any outside aids such as gutters/trees etc) I have to 'box' as clever as I can. The one saving grace is that I am in an upstairs room and the QTH is reasonably elevated. I'm often experimenting with different types of antennas (as we all do) and at the moment I'm using a 8.84 metre long EFLW and a 9:1 Unun and dropping the wire discretely straight down to the ground into 'clear air' from a first floor window. This appears to give me good exposure currently out to the USA and Carribean, as well as most of Europe. When the propagation is in our favor on 10mt or 12mt I can get confirmed QSOs  as far as Japan, Indonesia and South Africa, as well as my former homeland, Australia.

Even with such a limited small set-up I am constantly amazed and delighted at how far I can get out with such small power. To all my Amateur contacts who have given me confirmed and logged QSOs, and those who have tried to complete QSOs with me, and also those Amateurs and SWLs who have 'spotted' me I am always grateful to you. Best wishes/73s to all.
