More than likely I am talking to you through my 1999 100 watt Yaesu FT847 All Mode Earth Station Transceiver over a 40-6m Windom off center dipole antenna streached between our house and a tree in our back yard in a north/south configuration. My microphone will either be my Behringer XM8500 on an O.H. White scissor boom arm by my desk or my Heil Pro 7 headset mixed through a little Behringer 802 mixer. I recently added MFJ891 large dial wattmeter, an Ameritron AL811 600 watt linear amplifier and a MFJ989C Versa Tuner V antenna tuner. My transceiver is powered by a Alinco 35 amp 12 volt power supply.
Born at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountain in Surry County; Mount Airy (Mayberry), North Carolina, now living in Greensboro. Greensboro is home to the Revolutionary War's Battle of Guilford Courthouse, which is reinacted at the park each year. My wife talked me into going to GTCC for a one year Electronic Servicing night course in 1994/5. Our instructor was a ham with a General license Clyde C. "Sonny" Adkins Jr. A4VJO. The knowledge gained from him inspired me to learn and pass the Technician exam in Dec. 2, 1995 and I received my first ham license in Febuary of 1996 as KF4FVG. The long 3 month delay in it arriving was due to the FCC being involved in a Goverenment shut-down back then. I never upgraded to General until February of 2012. Interest in the HF bands sparked a desire to finally study, test and upgrade to Amateur Extra 2/11/17, and I then became KX4AU.
