 I live in Fairbanks Alaska and been here since just after the 1967 flood.  We arrived by plane in January 1968 and it was -70 below.  Times sure have changed.  We built a log cabin back when you couldn't yell at your nextdoor neighbor.  Now it's so populated you almost bump into each other.

I hav been a mechanic all my life.  Started as a pump jockey and worked myself into the shop and then worked at Midas Muffler for 15 years or so.  Was partners in our own Muffler Shop and it was a lot of fun.  Graduated, LOL, to Service writer where I spent out my days.  I am now retired.

I enjoy camping, fishing, and geocaching when I have time.  Started a little home based business walking pets for some side income until my Mom had a fall broke her wrist and a rib.  I had to care for her and then dementia set in.  Became a full time job.  Hey, it's Mom... !  She put up with me.

Since I was homebound caring for Mom I started building traps to catch dogs and cats for the local rescues.  Rescued pets as well for 6 years just prior to Moms health declined.  A way to give back to the community.

Needed something to fill my days so I decided to get my amateur radio license.  Didn't think it would really go anywhere.  I went through Tech and General and passed quite well the testing panel told me.  Decided to go all out and get my Extra which I also did quite well.  Hmmm, guess I should buy a radio.  So it began.  I now have a full grown shack and still learning the art.  I love it.  Especially digital.  Been having fun with that.

Got me a DXCommander Classic all band 40m - 2m. Had a heck of a time getting it tuned.  I think my ground isn't all that great.  But I also found myself making silly mistakes.  Still needs a little tuning but I had to get on AIR!  Finally did and here is my QRZ KL5NU page .
