I have enjoyed Amateur radio for many years.I have lately been going crazy restoring my FT-101 E and enjoying every minute of it. The amplifier is a SGC 500 Power Cube solid state amplifier that does the job well. I am not much of a contester (Dont contest at all) and love to rag-chew. At 66 I am still working and look forward every day to play radio as much as possible. I guess I will add more to it as time allows.
Just put up a IAC Shorty 40 antenna and it is working fantastic. I also am using a LDG automatic antenna tuner that works great. Contacts have been fantastic and I am enjoying the hobby. FUN STUFF. My first rig was a FT-101 B when I lived in Hawaii during the 60's. Working 11 meter I soon learned that there must be more. I got my first call around 1970 and when I moved to California I quickly advanced to Extra. I worked with Gordon West teaching and learned alot while assisting Gordon with his classes. I soon found myself going to Dayton for 5 years in a row and was offered a job consulting for SGC. The smart tuner I installed with my wife on sail boats and had a great time with my wife Linda AB6KQ. I also went to Germany to work the Booth at Friedrichshafen. While there I heard a familiar voice and found out the it was G0EHQ Fred from England who I had been talking with on 10 for a few years. He aldo was with his wife Ann G0BIR and we had a great time catching up. I left ham radio in the 90's and was away until last summer when I got back into ham radio. I have been restoring FT-101 E and EE's and my main radio I use is a FT-101 E. The amplifier I use is a SGC Power Cube the puts out around 400 to 500 watts. To get this type of power I drive it with my Yaesu at around 25 plus watts. IQSL 100% and enjoy every minute that I spend on the air. Festinating Stuff.
