I am a relatively new ham having received my Technician License in June 2023, upgraded to General in October 2023, and upgraded to Extra in April 2024. I had an interest in ham radio back in high school in the 60s but never mastered the code requirement and as life moved on I dropped my interest. In June 2023 I learned that the code requirement had been removed in 2007. I had a friend who let me know about a technician class taking place nearby and I jumped on it. I recently retired for a second time at the end of June 2023 and so my interest in this hobby and the timing of my retirement was perfect. I have always loved electronics and more recently a love of computers including building several desktop PCs. With the oversight of a Master Electrician, I wired our farmhouse renovation which is now our retirement home.
Other hobbies include Amateur Astronomy and I have a 10" newtonian telescope that I ground the mirror for back in the summer of 1970.
My work experience included being a Commercial Pilot of small planes as well as a Certified Flight Instructor. I then moved on to Professional Photography and had a portrait, wedding, and commercial studio in Austin, TX. Finally, I felt a call to ministry and went to seminary in Bangor, ME and then returned to Texas to serve 3 churches before becoming the Director of Outdoor Ministry at Slumber Falls Camp. That position is one I held for almost 20 years.
