I bought a handheld radio for monitoring railroads and discovered several 2m repeaters in my area and developed an interest in Amateur Radio activities. Heard many references to "Hamfest" and "Field Day" and wondered what all the excitement was all about. So I attended the June 2010 Manassas Hamfest, took the tests and qualified for Technician Class license. Then I studied some more and upgraded to General Class at the August 2010 Berryville Hamfest.
