I have been a Ham since the early 80’s, started as a Novice (KB2MOQ), then Technician (N2NFE), General and finally worked my way to Advanced (previous callsign was KF2EP). Now I’m studying for my Extra, yet again Hi Hi
My first HF radio was a Heathkit HW-101 with the matching speaker and oscilloscope, then I added a Ten Tec Century 21 – Model 570. I made hundreds of CW contacts on both radios into a G5RV at the time.
Today I have a Yaesu FTDX10 going to a multiband End Fed Half Wave antenna (EFHW-8010) up about 65-75 feet. When I’m out camping or POTA, I use my Elecraft KX3 with the PX3 Panadapter and if I really want to pack light, I bring along my Penntek TR-25 2 Band 5-Watt CW transceiver.
At home I use N3ZN’s Iambic Paddle or Straight Key, while camping or POTA I use Begali’s Traveler Light Iambic Paddle or my small French Army Special Forces Miniature Key by Jardillier, ca. 1955
I mainly operate on the lower bands, 80 / 40 meters and enjoy CW very much, although lately I have been on some of the 80-meter SSB Nets which have been a lot of fun too! Would like to get on the 160-meter band eventually, just trying to figure out the best antenna solution for that band.
My other hobbies include flying RC planes and drones, astronomy, camping, fly fishing and fly tying.
