I was introduced to Amateur Radio in the early 90's while I was in Civil Air Patrol (CAP). As a cadet, I was involved in a lot of Search and Rescue Training missions. Participating in missions and training exercises with neighboring squadrons. At that time, I had gone to communication school at Grissom Air Force Base in Peru, Indiana so that I would have had the ability to communicate with others on the missions. I failed to carry over what I had learned from that experience and obtain my Technician license. I have kicked myself in the rear ever since for not pursuing it back then. I was constantly reminded of that when subsequent movies and TV shows came out featuring amateur radio. "Pump Up The Volume", "Independence Day", "Contact", "Frequency", "Jericho", "Under The Dome", "10 Cloverfield Lane" and recently, "Leave The World Behind", just to name a few. I have since earned my General license and will shortly have my Extra. I'm looking forward to investigating possible opportunities in the Army/Air Force MARS program, ARES, RACES, AmRRON, TAPRN and the CH3 Project. I'm also looking forward to participating in Parks on the Air (POTA) and other radio contests and services. I plan on enjoying this hobby for many years to come and hopefully my children will take it up too, to help them prepare for whatever may come.
