User info
I am an active radio amateur for a short time.
However, radio technology has occupied me for most of my life.
As a young guy I served in the Swiss military, where I was assigned to diplomatic radio service (FKKP 48). Later, I spent some time in humanitarian service. For almost three years I worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC.
In various missions, mainly in Angola and Mozambique, I was assigned as a radio technician and operator. There I learned how to make shortwave communication with simple means.
Then I worked for many years in aviation as Avionic Engineer. As an Avionics Engineer, radio communications and radio navigation accompanied me in the daily work.
Between 2012 until the end of 2024, I worked at the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation. Now I'm retired. I enjoy the free time to be outside in nature. I love hiking in the mountains. Or to be on the road by (MTB) bike. In the cold season I love skiing and back country skiing. Throughout the year I am often with my paraglider in the Alps (Hike and Flying). We also travel across Europe for a few weeks every year with our camper bus. Sometimes a radio is also included. In between, we also spend our free time in our second QTH in the Bernese Oberland near Interlaken.
Besides, we still have our dog Dozer, who needs a lot of exercise in nature.
My amateur radio equipment currently consists of a HF YAESU FTDX10, YAESU FT-710, and an ICOM IC-705 (HF and VHF/UHF). The antenna is a 40 meter wire suspended about 11 meters above the ground. For matching I use an automatic antenna tuner ( MFJ-998RT). If necessary, i may use a power amplifier (KENWOOD T-922, TL-911 or an ACOM 1010) to push some more HF power in the aerial.
January 2022 i passed the Class 1 rating test and became the new radio call HB9HPR (former HB3XZA).
