I have always had an interest in radio and became friends with a person who at that time was a SWL, he lent me a spare ssb radio and I soon became facinated in the hobby. I became a member of the RSGB as BRS42704 in 1979.
I studied for the Radio Amateurs Exam and received my class B licence G6FDW in September 1981. I went on to study for (as it was called at that time) The Post Office Morse Test, and received my class A licence G4SFY in February 1983.
Over the years I've had several breaks from the hobby, only recently returning to the air in July 2025 after nearly 5 years.
I operate on all bands from 160m to 70cms (excluding 4m), my main interest being Dxing on 2m and 70cms especially MS and EME.
My equipment is a Yaesu FT897D
HF - 100w to a Doublet at around 10m
2m - 200w to 4x8 element Duel yagi antennas
70cms - 20w to 2x14 element Dual yagi antennas
