Hello friends,
my "radio career" started 1974 with a Stabo Statofon P3 CB handheld transceiver with
three pre-programmed channels.
I was about 13 years old at the time. Unfortunately, it faded away at some point
due to school, work, and family.
Then at the beginning of this year (2024), a friend encouraged me to get back into it,
and this September I passed the exam for the Amateur Radio Novice Examination Certificate.
Since this had absolutely nothing to do with my actual job (I worked in the
nursing field), it was quite a challenge, but good for the brain.
My transceiver is a YAESU FT-710 Field.
Anyone who looks at the photo can also easily see why my call sign ends with "LRW"
I enjoy driving my Land Rover Devender and enjoying good Scottish single malt Whisky from the Scottish Highlands.
When it comes to antennas, I follow the motto "keep it small and simple."
I use a very simple, homemade dipole antenna for the 10 and 15-meter bands,
which is installed under the roof. Well, it's not ideal, but the neighbors can't see
it, so it doesn't bother anyone, and I have my peace and quiet.
For portable operation, I use a Difona HF-P antenna or an inverted V end-fed antenna
with a 14m Spiderbeam fiberglass mast.
For the 2m and 70cm bands, I use the Tidradio TD-H3 and TD-H8 handheld
transceivers in mobile and portable operation. These are perfectly adequate for
our area.
I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with this modest setup.
...but it's expandable
