I QSL 100% - If you can't afford the return postage then at least provide an envelope with return address. If you can send me something that tells me about your town.
I am currently a Extra class Amateur radio operator and operate from my home in Rochester, NY. I have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technlogy which I rarely put to use and work in the field of the Industrial Automation and Process Controls (PLC, HMI, SCADA) for an engineering firm in Rush, NY. I have worked for many clients and many processes such as glass, chemical, web conveyence, automotive and many more. I've made window tint, colored paper, glass, film, ink, asphalt and much more. I love the variety of the job it allows me to get out and see the US and the world. I've been to Japan, China and Taiwan many times and many states in the Union. Still hoping for that job in Australia though.
I learned early on which end of the soldering iron was hot and have been interested in Ham radio since I was 12 years old. My older brother was a ham and operates a TS-520S. At the age of 16 I took and passed the theory portion of the Technician license but then failed to learn the CW in time. In 2009 while on a business trip in Miami, Ohio I awoke to find an antenna farm had sprouted in the hotel's parking lot. The sirens' call of Ham radio was back. My client at the time as holding me over till Monday so I had a weekend to kill and decided to stop by the Dayton Hamvention that Saturday to take and pass the Technician exam earning the callsign KC2VGC. Never wanting to settle with just mediocore that winter I upgraded to General class. I few months later and much studying and refreshing on that math (one of my weaker subjects) I passed my Extra and was assigned the call of AC2EV.
I am actively studying CW and still trying to learn the characters in my spare time, with 3 young children and job that can take me away at a moments notice it's been tough. I am using the ARRL CD and LCWO.net.
While I enjoy the outdoors I find little time to go camping and such but do enjoy visting a state park if the time allows. I've been to Mammoth cave in Kentucky 5 times and always enjoy it.
I always try and seek out the unusual places to visit if possible. I found the Funeral History museum in Texas to very interesting.
I recently spent 2 months in Beijing, China and got to see most of the sites including the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square. It's a real eye opener to see how other people live.
I've been to Taiwan and spent many hours wandering around the neighborhood and getting lost and finding out how one can communicate without knowing the language.
In Japan I've visiting the Golden Palace, Hiroshima and many, many temples and Castles. I've ridden the high speed train and seen the countryside go by at nearly 200 mph. My GPS had a hard time keeping up!
I recently finished building my dream rig the Elecraft K3/100 with P3 Panadapter. I'm still learning all the buttons and functions but I'm enjoying it immensely, It sure beats my Yaesu FT-450.
I currently have only 1 antenna a Hustler 6BTV that is mounted inside of PVC and sits proudly in the front yard. I had to get permission from the town to put it in the front yard but that wasn't terribly difficult. I found that it did have to be guyed. Something I was hoping I wouldn't have to do but after a 30mph nearly bent it half it was neccesary. It performs quite well for what it is. I spent many hours getting it tuned just right so that my antenna tuner is rarely used. I would like to put up a dipole in the back yard as I have nearly 110 feet but nothing to support it. The trees are only about 1 or 2 inches thick at 23 feet and bend easily. My house is 28 feet high and I can go 10 feet above that so maybe some day I'll get a hex beam or similar.
My hamshack is in the basement or "Daddy's working office" as my kids call it. It's dry and out of the way although my Rheem furnace puts out terrible hash on 40m. I've been somewhat unsuccesful in squelching it.
I enjoy programming the Arduino, Raspberry Pi and basically tinkering with stuff in the basement. When I'm not on the radio or goofing off, I'm tracking down RFI in my house and neighborhood.
I don't watch much TV but do enjoy This Old House, How It's Made, Factory Made and Dr. Who.
